The first rule of robbing a joint: fit in, look normal, don’t draw attention to yourself.25
This homey had the first rule of robbery almost down.
Frankly, he might have been a tad on the emaciated side for Hometown Buffet.
The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department is on the hunt for a brazen robbery suspect who calmly stood on line at a Hometown Buffet in Loma Linda before handing a cashier a note demanding cash.
The robbery took place Friday evening around 6:15 p.m. in the 24000 block of Redlands Boulevard.
The suspect was described as Latino, about 5 feet 5 inches, about 200 pounds and between 40-50 years of age.
Five-five and 200 pounds…that right there is a big red flag which all Hometown Buffet employees should have paid heed to and which should have given them absolute justification to lock down all entrance/exit doors and call 9-1-1 immediately to report a very suspicious subject in da house.
The emergency call might very well go something like this:
911: Do you have an emergency?
HTB: Yes…there is a suspicious man in line.
911: Do you have a description, maam?
HTB: Yes, he’s Hispanic and he appears to have a gun in his pocket. He’s about 5-5 and weighs about 200 pounds.
911: Is he suspicious because he’s Hispanic?
HTB: Uh, no, not that…
911: Is it the gun in his pocket?
HTB: No, not at all…
911: What is suspicious about the subject, maam?
HTB: He’s so damned skinny…something’s not right.
